The Augusta Township Mounted Patrol was formed in late 1995 with the
aid of
Michigan State Trooper Al Veal (a long time
horseman) and a then Washtnaw
County Sheriff Deputy Chuck Mullins. Their
had noticed in this rural SE corner of
Washtnaw County, Michigan there were a lot
of horses in the area. They spoke
with several horse owners in the area and
formulated the idea of having a mounted
patrol. They took their idea to the horse
owning public where it was very well
received. With Al & Chuck's help a group
was formed. With the aid of the Monroe
County Sheriff's Posse, State Police and the
Washtnaw County Sheriff's Dept. the
group, already accomplished horsemen from
varying backgrounds of
horsemanship, were trained in report writing,
CPR, First Aid, Hazardous Material
handling, Gang activity and intensive work
in desensitizing their horse to anything
that may be encountered while on patrol.
