The meeting was called to order by Debby at 7:15.

No crime summery this month as Lisa was unable to attend.

Henry made a motion to accept October's minutes as presented.  Lewis seconded
the motion.  The motion passed.

We have $353.74 in the treasury.  No expenses reported for October.  Henry
made a motion to accept the treasury report.  Bill seconded the motion.  The
motion passed.

Old Business

Our insurance company went up in its rates.  It would cost us $585.00 for
seven functions.  They would not cover any search and rescue.  They needed a form
filled out to decide what to charge us for the lead line rides at the
church's chicken broil.  After we read the form we found we wouldn't be covered
because it has to be done in an enclosed area.  The officers met with Al Veal to
get ideas on other companies.  He told us about USA Equestrian insurance
cover not only the parades but patrolling on the road.  Al recommended when
describing what we do to use the words benevolent not security or tactical.  If
damage is done when we're helping a person then the insurance would cover.  It
wouldn't cover you if you tried to arrest or help an officer to arrest a person.

Search and rescue would be covered as we'd be helping someone.  Henry made a
motion to drop our present insurance company and to get insurance through USA
Equestrian.  Bill seconded the motion.  The motion passed.  Henry made a
motion to amend bylaw 8.02 to say all members riding in functions must carry
insurance through USA Equestrian.  Included in his motion was to drop 8.01.  Bill
seconded Henry's motion.  The motion passed.

Last year it was voted to change the color of our jeans to tan.  Henry made a
motion to change the bylaws to state the new color.  9.02 is the one to
change.  Bill seconded the motion.  The motion passed.  Finally we have found tan
jeans for men.  Sheplers and Drysdales carry tan jeans for men and women.  Both
companies have web sites.  www. sheplers.com and  www.drysdales.com

Novi Expo was November 14,15 and 16.  Henry represented the Monroe Posse
Friday and Saturday for the color guard.  Connie represented the ATMP Friday and
Saturday.  Shirley and Connie represented ATMP on Sunday.  Al has sent us a CD
with the pictures he took during the ceremony each day.

Belleville Christmas parade December 6 at 11:00.

New Business
Our annual Christmas potluck will be December 12 on a Friday at Bill's house,
7:00.  Bring a main dish and either a salad or dessert, your drinks and place
settings.  Anyone letting me know what they are bringing I will pass the word
on to everyone else.  I'll bring a lasagna and a dessert.

Lewis, Connie and Shirley asked about sponsoring a new member who has just
turned 14.  Allyson Murphy has asked to join the mounted patrol with her parents
consent.  For those who don't know her parents bought Velvet from Shirley and
Jeremy.  Allyson parents have said its okay for Lewis, Shirley and Connie to
act as Allyson's guardians while riding.  Henry made a motion to revise 5.01
in our bylaws to include guardian for a minor to patrol with the group.
Shirley seconded the motion.  The motion passed.

Al Veal has asked if our group would be interested in hosting a training
outside of Toledo.  This training is put on by the company AL works for which
specializes in training mounted officers.  Mounted Police Training Systems is the
name of the company.  It would be sometime this summer and occur over a three
day weekend.  The company does all of the work.  We would be able to train for
free and receive 5% of the proceeds.  Henry made a motion at contact Al and
his company and host the training.  Shirley seconded the motion.  The motion
passed.  Lewis suggested we sit down with Al and his company to see what we need
to do, whats required, ect.  A letter needs to be written to AL and the
company stating we voted to host the training.
Henry made a motion to adjourn at 8:15.  Shirley seconded the motion.  The

inutes for October 8, 2003

Present for the meeting were: Henry Clay, Lisa King, Debby franks, Bill
Beach, Connie Maynard and Shirley Lyson.

The meeting was called to order by Debby at 7:02.

Lisa reported there were 170 calls to the police department last month.  5 be
on lookout, 2 harassing phone calls, 10 burglaries (homes under
construction), 2 attempted burglaries, 3 larcenies, 1 drive off gas, 4 stolen vehicles, 1
fraud, 5 mdop, 1 juvenile, 1 shots fired, 1 fireworks, 5 noise, 8 animal, 2 ORV
laws, 2 runaways, 11 traffic crashes, 3 parking violations, 18 burglary
alarms, 1 fire, 23 suspicious incidents, and 1 missing person.  There were others
but I didn't get all down. Sorry.

Henry made a motion to accept September minutes as typed with Bill seconding
the motion.  Motion passed.

We had $663.74 in the bank.  $10 was paid to renew the nonprofit and $300 sent
for insurance.  Leaving $553.74.  Henry made a motion to accept the treasury
report and Bill seconded it.  Motion passed.

Old Business

Henry suggested we check with the insurance company to see if we can add a
search and rescue day quickly if called.  Lisa said the sheriff's department
could probably write a letter confirming we were called in.  Henry also suggested
we check with Al to see if he knows of a better insurance company.

Lisa has been able to get us a room at the High School for our meeting for
the rest of the school year.  It is in the old building room 1100.  First set of
doors close to Willis Rd.  Go down the hall to the end, right hand side.
Next meeting is November 12 (conference night).

Last year we voted to add tan jeans to our outfit for the summer months.
However it has been difficult to find tan in mens jeans.  If you have better luck
let me know.

Henry and Bill represented the ATMP at this years National Night Out.
Attendance was low but everyone had fun.  Henry and Bill won a couple of raffle
prizes.

Bill reported on how things went for Howard's obstacle training at Kensington
Park.  About 75 horses were there.  One of the things that seem to bother the
horses the most was a garbage truck emptying bins.  The helicopter sat down
with the horses all in a line and then the horses had to walk around the
helicopter.  About 6 people were thrown.  Afterwards was the party for Al.  Bill
said Al received quite a few awards.

We were invited again this year to participate with the combined lawenforcement unit at Novi Expo November 14-16.  Henry and Bill volunteered for Friday,
Jay and I for Saturday and Shirley, Lewis (if hes not hunting), and I for
Sunday.

We forgot to discuss the yard sale at the meeting so it was canceled for this
Saturday.  Most members made other plans forgetting about it.  Maybe in the
spring.

New Business

On the November ballot will be a police millage request.  If passed it will
give us 3 deputies from 8 am until 2 am with the State Police answering calls
from 2 am until 8 am.  If not we will have one deputy for one shift and the
State Police the rest of the time.  They do not patrol only answer calls when
they can get there.  The Ypsilanti Post has had their staff reduced so it could
take longer to get someone.
Lisa gave us these numbers to think about.  There were 1,065 calls in 2000,
1,303 calls in 2001, 1,493 calls in 2002 and so far this year there has been
1,528 calls.

Christmas potluck dinner.  Need to plan for it next month.

Henry made a motion to adjourn at 7:40 and Bill seconded it.  Motion passed.

Augusta Township Mounted Patrol
Minutes for September 10, 2003

Present for the meeting were: Connie and Lewis Maynard, Shirley Lyson, Lisa
King, Henry Clay, Bill Beach, Sally Altenbernt, Jay Devereaux and Debby Franks.

The meeting was called to order by Debby at 7:12.

There were 172 calls to the Sheriffs station from our township.

Sally made a motion to accept August minutes as typed and Henry seconded the
motion.  The motion passed with Lewis being the only person to oppose.

We have $633 in the bank.  $682 was received from the Rodeo and $10 from the
chicken broil.  Expenses were $93 for shavings and $10 for the nonprofit
status.

Old Business

A donation of $10 was received from a parent during the chicken broil.  We
used helmets on the kids this year.  The one thing we forgot was to spray them
after each use to keep lice from being spread.  Next year we will do that and
have the donation can there during lead line rides.

Obstacle training was September 13.  Lewis, Connie, Henry, Bill, Sally and
Jay attended.  We worked on formation on the road first and then the obstacles.
No real problems.  Some of the horse were unsure of the green alligator but
accepted it after a bit.  We also burned hay and that went real well.  I had a
fog machine which besides spewing the fog it made weird noises which did scare
most of the horses.  We need to keep coming up with new items.

TRI is having their annual rideathon on October 12.  If your not riding and
want to sponsor someone Lewis and I will be riding.

Lisa has invited members of our group to take part in the National Night Out
this Friday the 26th.  Be there by 5:30. It runs from 6 - 9 and is at Buschs
on Michigan Ave in Saline.  If interested going with or without your horse let
me know.

New Business

Al Veal is having a retirement party at Kensington Metro Park October 4 about
3:30.

Insurance renewal is due soon.  The cost is determined after I send in the
required dates.

Lisa is going to see if she can get us a room to use at the school for our
meetings.  If she does I will let everyone know.  If not the next meeting will
be at Debby's house.

Al has informed me that again this year the mounted units will do color guard
each day for the Novi Expo November 14-16.

Augusta Township Mounted Patrol
Minutes for August 13, 2003

Present for the meeting were: Connie Maynard, Shirley Lyson, Lisa King, Henry
Clay, Marlene Farrow, Alda Cloud, Bill and Carol Beach.

The meeting was called to order at 7:20 by Henry due to the absence of Debby
and Lewis.

Bill made a motion to accept July minutes as typed.  Marlene seconded the
motion.  The motion passed.

We have $85.24 in the bank.  Income was $20 from a shirt sold and expenses
were $20 for first aid supplies for Fair week.  Bill made a motion to accept the
treasury report and Marlene seconded it.  The motion passed.
Old Business

The first aid booth during fair week was busy as usual.  No major accidents
just a lot of bandaids, blisters and sand in eyes.  Shirley and Lewis helped me
as much as they were able.  I did have to leave the tent unattended a few
times but the announcers knew to call me if I was needed, which they did a couple
of times.

The patrolling at the Saline Rodeo went real well also.  No problems.  Even
though I was worried something might happen it didn't.  Half of the signed up
members had to cancel helping due to problems and illnesses but we were able to
get their shifts covered okay.  Shavings cost $94.  This was our only
expense.  There were deputies on duty during each performance.  Lewis made it a point
to met and talk to them each day.  Different members rode in Grand Entry
Friday night and Saturday night.  Friday night and Sunday night we were given the
proceeds of a 50/50 raffle.  Kristi Mayfield and Allyson Murphy volunteered to
sale raffle tickets Sunday night and they sold more than had ever been raised
on Sundays.  Attend the meeting to see how much we made.  We have been asked
back to help again next year.  A huge thank you was sent by Jim and Maggie
Zinser and all of their help.  The announcer Cotton mentioned us quite a few
times during the performances and thanked us then also.

Due to the power outage and restriction on water use (it takes a lot of water
to clean white horses and we had three planning on being in the parade) we
canceled riding in the Heritage Festival Parade. I sent our regrets to the
parade chairman who understood and will contact us next year.  He thanked me for

letting him know we wouldn't be there.

The chicken Broil at St. Joseph's Church went real well also.  Quite a few
kids rode Apache and Mack.  Those two and their handlers, Shirley, Jeremy, Jay,
Bill Deveraux, Henry and Kelsey were kept real busy.  Bill Beach, Lewis and I
covered the parking lot duty helping people find parking spots.  A chicken
dinner was supplied to all of us.
New Business

the middle of remodeling our house there won't be a bonfire and potluck after
the training.  We will schedule one later this fall.  Setup for the obstacles
will be noon on Saturday.  Ride at 1:00.

September 26 is National Night Out from 6 to 9 PM at Buschs.  If attending
you need to be there by 5:30.

Elections are in September.  Hope to see you at Bill's house Wednesday,

Not many members answered the questionnaire for the newsletter. For the ones
who haven't the questions were name, horse information, activities you took
part in, any interesting story you would like to share and number of hours
you rode the past year.

Deputy Ahlers did the CPR training for the members who could be there.
Henry, Bill, Sally, Debby, Lewis & Connie are now certified for CPR and first
aid. Deputy Ahlers has said he will do this on a yearly basis.

Project Red put on by Michigan Farm Bureau will be April 2 at Eastern Market.
So far Henry, Bill, Lewis & Connie are planning on attending. We patrol the
area and let the kids come up close to see our horses.
In January Henry and Lewis met with Sheriff Minzey and discussed our group
and got the CPR training for us. They discussed our going to schools with
the horses are PR.

New Business

It is recommended giving your horse a second West Nile shot in August. I
attended Dr Halstead's lecture at the Stallion Expo in Lansing last weekend
and he said last year there were 341 confirmed cases of West Nile in
Michigan. Most of the horses never were vaccinated, some where improperly
vaccinated (either didn't get second shot, too long of time between first and
second shot or came down with disease right after shot, it takes 3 weeks for
the vaccine to take effect) and 5 of the cases had been vaccinated. The
majority of the cases occurred the end of August and all of September which
is why he recommends a second shot early August.

The meeting was adjourned 8:10.
